COMPLIANCE, GOVERNANCE AND ETHICS

It is our stated policy to develop, implement and practice compliance, governance and ethical procedures that regulate the activities, products and services of TSS. This ensures that workers and stakeholders are protected from injury and illness, products do not harm the public, and that there is sustainable impact to society and the environment.

To run the business successfully, TSS management are constantly aware of the following critical areas:

  1. Existing legal and regulatory requirements
  2. New and pending legislation
  3. Non-regulatory requirements imposed on, or committed to by, the organisation
  4. Current compliance status and risk to compliance

TSS has developed standards to ensure that appropriate TSS management is always aware and in a position to proactively manage these critical success factors.

The TSS compliance programme supports our business objectives to be the recognised leader in camp management, catering and facilities solutions across Africa, while at the same time enhancing African economic and social potential. Underpinning the programme is a Code of Ethics and Good Business Practice, an Anti Bribery Anti-Corruption Policy and a Whistleblowing Policy and Procedure Code of Ethics and Good Business Practice document.

Our policies and procedures specify zero tolerance to inducements, corruption or any form of economic crime, as well as adherence to the principles of responsibility, accountability, fairness and transparency. We require that our employees conduct themselves with conscience, competence and commitment as well as with the courage to develop these traits in the organisation. All stakeholders embrace a participatory/inclusive approach in this regard.

Our Governance and Ethics Programme is aligned with international norms (OECD, UN Convention against Corruption); local legislation; the United Kingdom Bribery Act 2010; and the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977. The programme is championed by senior leadership and a clearly articulated and visible group policy prohibites unethical business dealings. The programme is further enhanced by adopting a risk-based approach, the application of proportionate procedures, training and communication for and with employees and other business partners. Compliance is continuously monitored and reviewed.

SHEQ CULTURE

As the leading regional service provider in facilities, catering and hospitality, it has always been imperative that TSS establish Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) systems that meet the requirements of the toughest global best-practice standards. This has enabled us to provide exemplary client service, while ensuring the safety of our employees, clients, suppliers and business stakeholders. At the same time preventing pollution, protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development within the communities where we conduct business.

Most of TSS’s work takes place in remote-site conditions, which requires a deep understanding of the work environment to respond appropriately in hazardous situations. To this end, TSS has appointed HSE leadership with extensive experience in implementing HSE systems to guide a team of qualified managers and officers in-country and on project sites.

This team has developed sustainable processes that ensure conformance to best practice, in line with International Standards that guide our Integrated Management Systems, such as:

  1. ISO 22000:2018 (Food Safety Management System)
  2. ISO 45001: 2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System)
  3. ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management System)
  4. ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management System)
  5. HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)
  6. Codex Alimentarius Recommended International Code of Practice (General Principles of Food Hygiene)

To ensure conformance to all applicable requirements, TSS conducts monthly internal audits and subjects their SHEQ system to client second party audits/inspections, as well as to contracted external companies to objectively review the systems and test the effectiveness of implementation.

Training & Skills

TSS is committed to investing in the development of personnel to ensure the continuing success of the business, the improvement of our team, contractors, and the community. To make this a reality, managers, heads of departments and supervisors ensure that all staff are trained and developed in line with their activities and their career path within the company.

Staff training is planned and carried out to ensure that competencies meet or exceed required expectations. The purpose of our training procedure is to implement appropriate training for all personnel to ensure they have an adequate understanding of our Management Systems and the need to conform to our Policy Statements and other elements applicable to the running of operations.

Annual training gap-and-analysis reviews, based on the company annual management reviews, ensure that TSS identifies and develops training that enables us to stay abreast of industry best practice, legal requirements and allows our staff to remain competitive in an evolving business environment.
